Questions injured workers ask us
Do I pay anything to talk to you?
No. The first conversation is free. If you hire us, you owe no fee unless benefits are recovered. Case costs, such as records and medical reports, are in your written agreement, and you may owe them even if the claim is lost.
How long do I have to report my injury?
Not long, and it differs by state. Tell your supervisor in writing as soon as you can, and call us if you aren't sure.
Can my employer fire me for filing a claim?
Employers generally can't punish you for filing. If something changes at work after you report an injury, write down what and when, and call us.
Which doctor do I have to see?
It depends on the state and on your employer's list. Ask us before you change doctors so that a visit isn't left unpaid.
Does my immigration status matter?
In many states a worker's immigration status doesn't stop a workers' compensation claim. We explain how it works where you work and what we would need from you.
What if my employer has no insurance?
You may still have options, through the state or against the employer directly. Bring whatever you have and we will look.
How long does a claim take?
A simple claim can settle in weeks. One that goes to hearing can take many months. We tell you where yours stands whenever we hear something.
Can I meet in Spanish?
Yes. Yaritza Carranza, Benita and Tadeo speak Spanish, and the Calhoun, Cartersville and Rome offices each have one of them.
What should I bring to the first meeting?
Any letters, medical papers, pay stubs and the claim form. If you don't have them, come anyway and we will list what to ask for.
Still wondering?
Ask about your own situation. We answer in English or Spanish.
